MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (15-9) smashed their way a 14-2 victory over the visiting North Greenville University Crusaders (9-16) Tuesday afternoon at John Kurtz Field.
Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) started the scoring off in the bottom of the first as he knocked in Ryan Sabalasky (Carol Stream, Ill.).
The Bobcats blew the game open in the bottom of the fourth inning when they sent nine batters to the batter's box, scoring six of them. Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) capped the inning with a grand slam, his second of the year.
Georgia College pushed five more runs across the plate in the fifth inning, while sending 11 Bobcats to the batter's box. Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) and Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.) each had two RBI in the inning.
The Crusaders got on the board in the top of the sixth, scoring their only runs of the game on three hits.
The Bobcats used eight pitchers on the evening, with Patrick Olvaney (Alpharetta, Ga.) getting the win for his 3 ⅓ innings of relief work for starter Christian Wonders (Stuart, Fla.). Olvaney improved his record to 2-2 on the year. Wonders appeared in his first game as a Bobcat, as the Brevard Community College transfer missed the start of the year with an injury.
Joe Scott (Warner Robbins, Ga.) made his second appearance on the mound for the Bobcats, as the backup catcher recorded the final out in the eighth inning. Scott would stay on in the top of the ninth and finish the game catching, replacing Hazel behind the plate.
Sabalasky finished the day 3-for-3 with two walks. He scored three time and also knocked in a run. Bick continued his impressive year, as the junior shortstop went 3-for-4 at the plate while making multiple highlight plays in the field.
The Bobcats return to John Kurtz Field Saturday, March 23 at 1 p.m. as they'll take on Augusta State University (10-17, 3-9 PBC).
