GC Baseball Sweeps Georgia Southwestern, 8-3 and 5-2

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College baseball team (12-7, 6-3 PBC) took a pair of games from Georgia Southwestern State University (6-15, 2-9 PBC) 8-3 and 5-2 Saturday at John Kurtz Field. The wins gave the Bobcats a 3-0 Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series sweep of the Hurricanes.

In game one the Bobcats rallied late, scoring all eight runs in the fifth and sixth innings.

Georgia College plated four in each of those two innings, the big blow in the fifth a two-run Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) single. Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) tagged a triple to right center with the bases loaded in the sixth to push it further out of reach.

First baseman Clay Ardeeser (Loganville, Ga.) was the lone multi-hit performer in game one, going 2-for-3 with an RBI. Sabalaskey scored twice and drove in three, adding two stolen bases. Bick added two runs and two total RBI, also snagging a steal. Centerfielder Mikee Moore (Dunwoody, Ga.) drove in a pair as well.

Righty starter Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) went eight innings to get the win (3-1), scattering 11 singles for three runs with four strikeouts. Justin Lott (1-1) took the loss in 5 2/3 innings of work. Third baseman Josh Sanders had three hits and three runs for the Hurricanes.

More solid pitching in game two helped the Bobcats pick up a 5-2 win.

Righty starter Justin Blue (Mulberry, Fla.) tossed 5 2/3 innings, allowing just two runs on five hits for the victory (4-2). Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) finished off the game for his second save, a hitless 3 2/3 innings.

Bick added four more hits in game two, driving in one and scoring three times. Ardeeser had another single, extending his hit streak to 17 games. Sabalaskey was 2-for-4 with a run, while third baseman Rob Hogenkamp (St. Louis) had two hits in four trips, also scoring a run.

Matthew Suggs (3-3) went the distance in the loss and leftfielder Randal Sheffield collected two hits. On the doubleheader, the Hurricanes had 16 total hits, all going for singles.

The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, March 13 at 3 p.m., hosting the University of West Georgia (14-5).
