Bobcat Baseball Splits Doubleheader at UNC Pembroke

PEMBROKE, N.C. – Georgia College baseball (8-7, 2-3 PBC) took the nightcap of doubleheader action Saturday at UNC Pembroke (13-4, 4-4 PBC) rebounding from a 5-3 loss for an 11-6 win. Both games were won by late comebacks.

In game one, the Bobcats led 3-1 into the sixth but the Braves scored twice each in the sixth and seventh innings for the 5-3 final. The go-ahead run came on an RBI double by Derrick Phillips.

Starter John Clark (Duluth, Ga.) took the loss (2-1) despite a solid start, going 6 2/3 innings allowing five earned runs. UNCP starter Ethan Carter (5-0) got the win in 7 1/3 innings, allowing three runs and fanning six.

Catcher Steve Hazel (Kentwood, Mich.) was 3-for-4 with two RBI, including a double. Jeremy Donaldson (Winder, Ga.) added a solo home run, his second of the season. Clay Ardeesser (Loganville, Ga.) was 2-for-3 with a run.

Game two featured a 6-1 lead for UNCP into the seventh, when the Bobcats lit up Brave pitching for seven runs.

The Bobcats had seven hits in the inning, with Ardeeser posting a two-run single followed by a two-run double from Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.). Maas finished 2-for-5 with four RBI. Ardeeser drove in two and scored twice on 1-for-3.

Patrick Olvaney (Alpharetta, Ga.) got the win (1-2) in an inning of shutout relief. Lefty Christian Bragg (Augusta, Ga.) tossed the final 2 1/3 innings for his first save. The loss went to Aaron Spano (1-3).

Leftfielder Taylor Hinshaw (Winder, Ga.) tagged a solo home run and a double as part of his 2-for-4 effort with an RBI and two runs. Ryan Sabalaskey (Carol Stream, Ill.) was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI, while rightfielder Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.) and shortstop Daniel Bick (Alpharetta, Ga.) each had two hits in five trips. Bick scored twice and drove in one, while Anderson scored once and drove in another.

The Bobcats close the three-game set with UNCP tomorrow, March 3 at 1 p.m.
