GC Baseball Alum Named Manager of Kingsport Mets

KINGSPORT, Tenn. – Former Georgia College baseball player Jose Leger (2003-04) was recently named head coach of the Kingsport Mets, the Rookie A farm club in the New York Mets organization.

Leger, a former catcher and infielder who played in the Minnesota Twins' minor league system from 2004-08, most recently managed the DSL Mets (R) of the Dominican Summer League the past two seasons.

Leger made his coaching debut in 2009 with the DSL Twins as the club's hitting coach. Leger attended Middle Georgia College from 2001-02, transferring to Georgia College the next year, where he was named All-Peach Belt Conference (PBC) in 2003 and 2004.

Leger has coached in the Dominican Winter League for Tigres del Licey since 2008, and resides in Santo Domingo, DR, with his wife, Estela and their two sons, Jose Joaquin and Eduardo Jose.

The Mets’ season begins Tuesday, June 19 against the Princeton Rays.
