SAVANNAH, Ga. – Having already earned a spot on the Daktronics All-Southeast Region First Team, Georgia College designated hitter Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) added Rawlings/American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) All-Region Second Team recently.
Maas led GC in home runs (8) and RBI (56) and was second on the team in batting average at .333. The junior was third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) with his RBI, adding sixth in round trippers. Maas is the second GC designated hitter to earn all-region from the ABCA, the first being Chris Carr in 2000.
All-time, the Bobcats have put 53 players on the two-team recognition program’s list. Both outfielder Shawn Ward and shortstop Tanner Funk earned first-team nods in 2011, with pitcher Mike Guinane taking a second-team slot.
Bobcat baseball recently finished up the 2012 season, going 29-21 with a 19-10 PBC mark, good for a PBC West Division title. GC landed three on the all-conference teams, with Maas now adding Daktronics All-Region honors.
The ABCA is the primary professional organization for baseball coaches at the amateur level. Its over 6,600 members represent all 50 states and 23 countries. Since 1945, Association membership has broadened to include seven divisions - NCAA Division I, II and III, NAIA, Junior College, High School and Youth.
The Georgia College Department of Athletics, two-time winners of the PBC Commissioner's Cup, sponsors 11 varsity athletic programs at the NCAA Division II level. As a Division II program, Bobcat Athletics prides itself on balancing the life of the student-athlete, evidenced by the teams' multiple appearances in post-season competition as well as documented academic success and community-service involvement.
