MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Having been already named to the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) All-Academic Team, Georgia College baseball’s junior outfielder Heine Rivera (Fayetteville, Ga.) added another honor recently of Capital One Academic All-District.

Rivera earned an outfield spot on the District 3 list for Division II, including baseball players in the PBC, South Atlantic Conference and Conference Carolinas.

Owning a 3.68 GPA in biology, Rivera was a top pinch-hit and pinch-running option for the Bobcats this season, playing in 33 games with 15 starts. He hit .262 with 12 runs scored and seven RBI. The outfielder is also a perfect 4-for-4 in stolen base attempts.

Rivera now moves on to the national Division II ballot, with Academic All-American winners to be announced later this month. He is just the fourth GC baseball player to earn district honors, the last being Bryan Shaughnessy in 2007.

Bobcat baseball recently finished up the 2012 season, going 29-21 with a 19-10 PBC mark, good for a PBC West Division title. GC landed three on the all-conference teams, with Travis Echols (Suwanee, Ga.) and Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.) taking first team, and reliever Matt LaMothe (Troy, Mich.) landing on the second.
