MARTINEZ, Ga. – The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) announced its Preseason All-PBC Team for baseball recently, with No. 23 Georgia College’s Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) earning the nod at shortstop.
Funk earns a slot on the 13-member team after taking All-PBC First Team status as a junior a year ago. He was also named to the Rawlings Preseason All-American Team this month.
In his first year with GC after transferring from Johnson Community College, Funk also was named an All-American by all three organizations in 2011. Now a senior, Funk hit .392 last season, ripping 20 doubles with 54 RBI and 45 runs.
The Bobcats had both Richard Pirkle (2008-11) and Shawn Ward (2010-11) named Preseason All-PBC a year ago.
Georgia College starts its 2012 season Saturday, Feb. 4 for a 1 p.m. doubleheader against King College (Tenn.), part of “Showcase Saturday” for Georgia College Athletics.
