AUGUSTA, Ga. – Felled by a walk-off bloop single to left, the Georgia College baseball team (25-16, 15-8 PBC) dropped a 10-9 decision at Augusta State University (13-31, 4-23 PBC) Sunday.
A two-run shot off the bat of rightfielder Bryce Williams (Manhattan, Kan.) in the top of the eighth gave GC a 9-8 lead, and momentum. The Jaguars answered with one in the bottom half to tie, eventually taking the game via the pinch hit single by Brack Barton in the ninth.
Williams finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored as the lone multi-hit performer for the Bobcats. Centerfielder Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.) drove in three as part of his 1-for-3 afternoon.
The three outfield spots for GC went a combined 5-for-10, scoring six runs and driving in five, as leftfielder Josh Young (Lake Havasu City, Ariz.) was 1-for-3 with two runs scored.
Reliever Zack Hula (Kennesaw, Ga.) dropped to 2-1 on the season with his 3 2/3 innings, allowing a pair of earned runs.
The Bobcats still picked up the series victory thanks to yesterday's doubleheader sweep, as GC has now won six Peach Belt Conference (PBC) series on the year.
The loss drops GC to 15-8 in conference play, still atop the PBC West with a .652 win percentage. That mark ranks third in the league overall as well.
The Bobcats are back in action Wednesday, April 18 at 6 p.m., hosting Toccoa Falls College at John Kurtz Field.
