NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Georgia College baseball team (9-7) sent five pitchers to the hill, holding Newberry College (8-8) to just four runs, but the Bobcats couldn't get the bats going, falling to the Wolves 4-2.
GC took a lead in the fourth on a Benton Yaun (Marietta, Ga.) RBI single. The Wolves answered right back in the fifth, plating three runs—taking advantage of three walks—for a 3-1 lead.
After a Newberry insurance run in the seventh, the Bobcats got one back in the top of the ninth, but the rally halted there for the 4-2 final.
Senior righty Walker McKinven (Lake Bluff, Ill.) took the loss (0-1), allowing two earned runs in an inning of work. The winning pitcher was Mario Rojas (2-1), in a 7 2/3 inning start.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 2 at 6 p.m., hosting Lander University at John Kurtz Field.
