Bobcat Baseball Stays Put at National #3

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – After going 3-1 this week in a pair of doubleheaders with the University of West Georgia, head coach Tom Carty’s Georgia College baseball team (5-2) held the same slot in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine Division II National Poll, keeping the No. 3 slot.

The Bobcats split a doubleheader at UWG, and took both games in dramatic fashion at home Sunday. Junior Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.) was the hitting star for the week, going 5-for-13 (.385) at the plate over four games, scoring four times and driving in four. Sophomore Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) nearly went the distance in just his second start, as he tossed 8 2/3 innings allowing one unearned run and scattering eight hits while fanning three.

GC is behind only No. 1 UC-San Diego and No. 2 Florida Southern College.

Five Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools have earned slots on the list, led by the Bobcats. North Georgia is No. 8, UNC Pembroke No. 18, Armstrong Atlantic No. 22 and Columbus State University rounds out the group at No. 27.

The Bobcats are back in action Friday, Feb. 18 at 3 p.m., hosting Pfeiffer University.
