#15 GC Baseball Owns Fifth Slot in Region Poll

INDIANAPOLIS – The No. 15 Georgia College baseball team (35-15) jumped from eighth to fifth in the most recent NCAA Southeast Region Rankings, the NCAA announced Wednesday.

The Bobcats powered through a three-game sweep of Armstrong Atlantic over the weekend to get the big push. GC has won 11 of their last 12 games.

Mount Olive College owns the top slot in the region, followed by Francis Marion University. Columbus State University is third, with UNC Pembroke ahead of the Bobcats.

The region poll helps decide the at-large selections to the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament later this month. MOC has already advanced to the tourney as the Conference Carolinas Tournament Champion, joining South Atlantic Conference Tournament winner Wingate University. The Peach Belt Conference gets an automatic bid for their tournament winner, with the tourney beginning Sunday, May 8. Three at-large bids fall to the top ranked teams in this list.

The Bobcats kick off the 2011 PBC Tournament against UNCP Sunday at 9 a.m. in Columbus, Ga.
