Guinane, Nicholas Help #5 Bobcat Baseball Pass Pacers

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Powered by two outstanding pitching efforts, the No. 5 Georgia College baseball team (23-8, 8-4 PBC) took two games from USC Aiken (17-13, 3-9 PBC) Sunday 6-2 and 2-0 at John Kurtz Field. The wins helped the Bobcats get a 2-1 series victory over the Pacers.

Lefty starter Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) was lights-out in the resumption of Saturday's rain-halted nightcap. The game picked up in the top of the second with GC leading 2-1, and Guinane (7-0) shut the Pacers down in order until the seventh. He finished with eight innings, allowing one run on just four hits while fanning eight.

Shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) ripped a single and a double in four trips, driving in two runs and scoring once. Designated hitter Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.) went 2-for-3 with a run and a pair of singles.

Game two was the Jason Nicholas (Wright City, Mo.) show, as the senior lefty threw 8 2/3 innings of shutout ball, allowing just three hits and fanning nine. He tired in the ninth at 134 pitches, and gave way to closer Tanner Moore (Thomasville, Ga.) for the final out via strikeout, picking up his seventh save.

GC scored a pair of runs in the second on a two-run double by Jim Moreland (Suwanee, Ga.). The junior designated hitter ripped a liner to left, and the USCA leftfielder slipped on the wet grass as the ball fell over his head, plating the game's only runs.

Funk had a pair of hits in this one as well, finishing 4-for-7 with a run and two RBI over the two games.

GC travels to Benedict College for non-conference action Tuesday, March 29 at 3 p.m.
