AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 1 Georgia College baseball team (18-5, 4-2 PBC) halted a three-game losing streak Sunday at Augusta State University (11-13, 5-4 PBC) with a 19-5 win.
Shortstop Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.) had a remarkable day, rapping four doubles amongst a 5-for-6 day. Both Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) and Travis Echols (Lawrenceville, Ga.) helped out with two-run home runs. For Pirkle it was his team-leading fifth, and Echols picks up his second round-tripper.
Lefty starter Mike Guinane (Glenview, Ill.) was the beneficiary of the 19 runs, throwing seven innings and allowing five runs—four earned. The sophomore improves to 5-0. Freshman Matthew Robinson (Hull, Ga.) threw the final two scoreless innings.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 18 at 6 p.m., playing host to No. 30 Columbus State University (16-7, 3-3 PBC) at Youth Baseball Night at John Kurtz Field. The Cougars have a game at Stillman College Wednesday, March 16 at 5:30 p.m. before coming to Milledgeville.
