#1 GC Baseball Drops Pair at Augusta State 10-1, 10-9
AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 1 Georgia College baseball team (17-5, 3-2 PBC) struggled Saturday, dropping a pair of Peach Belt Conference (PBC) games at Augusta State University (11-12, 5-3 PBC) 10-1 and 10-9.
In game one, senior lefty Jason Nicholas (Wright City, Mo.) took the loss, falling to 4-2 while not lasting an inning. The Bobcats got their lone run on a ninth-inning pinch-hit double by Shawn Haley (Canton, Ga.).
Game two saw much more firepower from GC, as they put up nine runs. The Bobcats had a seven-run fifth inning, getting two hits in that inning alone from both Travis Echols (Lawrenceville, Ga.) and Jim Moreland (Suwanee, Ga.). Also recording a multi-hit game was Cody Maas (Alpharetta, Ga.).
The Bobcats led 9-6 lead in the ninth and turned it over, the winning run for ASU coming on a wild pitch. Senior closer Tanner Moore (Thomasville, Ga.) took the loss (1-1).
The Bobcats close the three-game set with the Jaguars tomorrow, March 13 with a single game at 1 p.m. Georgia College Athletics Hall of Fame inductee Scott MacLeod will be there to call the action on the HomeTeam Country 102.3FM and ESPN 1450AM, as well as www.Country102FM.com .
