#1 Bobcat Baseball Beats Benedict, 16-3
MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The first game since being named the nation's No. 1 team in the most recent Collegiate Baseball Newspaper poll went off without a hitch, as Georgia College baseball (14-2) scored 13 first-inning runs off Benedict College (5-4) and beat the Tigers 16-3.
GC pounded out 19 hits for 16 runs, and batted around twice in the first inning.
First baseman Benton Yaun (Marietta, Ga.) was 3-for-3 with six RBI, including a grand slam, scoring three runs. Rightfielder Shawn Ward (Evans, Ga.) was 3-for-6 with three RBI and two runs.
Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.), Ikaika Anderson (Austell, Ga.), Tanner Funk (Kearney, Mo.), Jim Moreland (Suwanee, Ga.) and Matthew Robinson (Hull, Ga.) each recorded two hits, Funk driving in two and scoring twice.
The Bobcats put six pitchers on the hill, with reliever Michael Jeanes (Peachtree City, Ga.) picking up the win, the first of his college career. Jeanes went three innings, allowing four hits and just one run, fanning one.
GC baseball improves to 10-0 at home this season, the last home loss coming April 28, 2010 against Erksine College. The Bobcats also have won 11-straight games, the best since a 20-game streak in 2009.
The Bobcats are back in action Friday, March 4 at 6 p.m. beginning a three-game set at No. 11 North Georgia (10-3, 1-2 PBC).
