#3 Bobcats Blow By Philadelphia in Doubleheader Sweep

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The No. 3 Georgia College baseball team (12-2) swept a doubleheader against Philadelphia University (0-3) in grand fashion Saturday, beating the Rams 18-4 and 26-0 at John Kurtz Field.

In game one, GC posted a nine-run first and never looked back, rattling off 18 runs on 10 hits.

Rightfielder Shawn Ward (Evans, Ga.) went 3-for-7 with four RBI and three runs. He was the only multi-hit performer in game one, as centerfielder Patrick Daugherty (Kennesaw, Ga.) scored three times, and third baseman Travis Echols (Lawrenceville, Ga.) drove in a pair.

Senior righty Eric Pettepher (Gordon, Ga.) was the beneficiary of the runs. Pettepher (3-0) went six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits, and fanned four. Walker McKinven (Lake Bluff, Ill.) got the three inning save, allowing two runs and fanning four.

In game two, GC tagged 23 hits for 26 runs, surpassing Friday's 24-0 game as the most runs scored this season, and the most since a March 21, 2007 30-6 win over Albany State University.

Daugherty wowed the crowd in game two, going 5-for-5 with seven RBI and five runs scored. He swatted a pair of home runs, including a grand slam. Echols was big again, hitting 4-for-5 with four RBI and three runs. He also lifted his first NCAA Division II home run. Catcher Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) also blasted a round-tripper, finishing 2-for-3 with three RBI and a run.
