Bobcat Baseball Continues to Tear Through National Rankings

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University baseball team (33-12, 17-4 PBC) continues their climb to the top of three national polls. The Bobcats are eighth in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine poll, seventh in the PING! Baseball Top-30 rankings and are No. 12 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) list.

Georgia College went undefeated at 4-0 last week, including a three-game sweep of North Greenville University. The team started the week with an 8-4 victory over then No. 14 Valdosta State University, which was head coach Tom Carty’s 100th win in his third season at Georgia College. The Bobcats then swept North Greenville with scores of 12-10, 7-4 and 8-3.
The ‘Cats slid up another two slots in the Collegiate Baseball Magazine poll, reaching No. 8, the highest ranking of the 2010 season. Georgia College is second among the six Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools listed. Francis Marion University is the highest-ranked PBC team at No. 6, while Columbus State University is at No. 10 followed by North Georgia at No. 19, No. 21 UNC Pembroke and No. 25 USC Aiken.
In the PING! rankings, Georgia College jumped up four spots from No. 11 to seventh as four other PBC teams were ranked in the top-30. Francis Marion stayed put at sixth, Columbus State fell to No. 11, USC Aiken fell to No. 23, while North Georgia moved up three spots to No. 26.
The Bobcats are the highest-ranked conference team in the NCBWA poll at No. 12. The Patriots are at No. 13 while the Cougars are listed at No. 25.
Georgia College hosts No. 20 Erskine College Wednesday, April 28 at 6 p.m. in the final home game of the regular season.
