MARTINEZ, Ga. – Senior pitcher Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany.) of the No. 16 Georgia College & State University baseball team (17-10, 9-3 PBC) was named the Peach Belt Conference’s (PBC) Pitcher of the Week Monday, marking the second time Dewald has received the honor this season.
Dewald had a win and a save as the Bobcats took two of three games from No. 7 USC Aiken on the road. The senior pitched a complete-game six-hitter in the second game of the series, allowing one run and one walk while striking out eight. He retired the first five Pacers he saw and set down the side in order three times, including the ninth inning in the 8-1 win. He came back the next day to get the last out in Georgia College's 14-12 series-clinching win and earn his first save of the season. He entered with two outs and runners at second and third, but got the game-ending strikeout. The righty is now third in the PBC in strikeouts (52) and opponent batting average (.220).
Georgia College takes on Clark Atlanta University Tuesday, March 30 at 5 p.m.
