SAVANNAH, Ga. - Fresh off a four-game sweep of Millersville University, the baseball team at Georgia College & State University (4-4) jumped into this week's (Feb. 22) Collegiate Baseball Magazine NCAA Division II Top 30 Poll, taking No. 29.
The Bobcats are one of four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) schools listed in this week's poll. Francis Marion University is at No. 3, equaling their highest ranking ever. Columbus State University is at No. 12 while UNC Pembroke is at No. 21.
The Bobcats outscored the Marauders 44-22 in the four-game series. Junior lefty Matt Kaplan (Alpharetta, Ga.) got his win career-win at GCSU in the 5-0 victory in the first game. In the doubleheader (Feb. 23) Georgia College won 12-6 and 8-2. Matt Pitts (Brunswick, Ga.) and Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) were offensive machines for the Bobcats in the two games. Pitts went 3-for-7 with a HR and seven RBI while Pirkle also hit 3-for-7 with 3 HR with six RBI. The Bobcats took game four 19-14 Sunday (Feb. 24) as Kyle Allen (Conyers, Ga.) hit 3-for-6 with three runs scored, stole a base and had four RBI.
Georgia College is back in action Wednesday, Feb. 24 at Benedict College at 3 p.m.
