MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Senior righthander Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) of the No. 4 Georgia College & State University baseball team (42-17) took the final GCSU Athlete of the Week for the 2009-10 athletic season Wednesday. The honor was the third for Dewald and the sixth for the Bobcat baseball team this year.
Dewald was outstanding in the 2010 Division II World Series this week for the Bobcats, going 1-1 with a pair of complete games and a 1.53 ERA over two games. He started out with No. 1-ranked UC-San Diego, going the distance of 8 2/3 innings, surrendering just three runs on eight hits and three walks while fanning nine.
His top performance came in an elimination game against the eventual National Champions, No. 9-ranked University of Southern Indiana. He shut out the Screaming Eagles on five hits and three walks while striking out eight.
