OMAHA, Neb. - Ping!Baseball released its Preseason 2010 Division II Rankings and the Georgia College & State University Bobcats earned the No. 23 national spot.
Teams positioned 21 to 30 were announced on Wednesday, Jan. 13, 11 to 20 announced Thursday the 14th and the top-10 revealed Friday, Jan. 15.
The Bobcats went 37-19 last season advancing to the NCAA Tournament for the third time in the last four years, and first time under head coach Tom Carty. The Bobcats have also won at least 33 games in the past two years of Carty at the helm. A big part of the team's success last season was their ability to swipe bases. Georgia College stole over four times as many bases as their opposition last year and had an amazing .860 success rate.
The ‘Cats return two of their top three starting pitchers from last year and also have five position starters back on the field. Seniors Martin Dewald (Mannheim, Germany) and Sean Harrell (Martinez, Ga.) were named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Division II Preseason All-America Team.
Georgia College starts the season Friday, Feb. 5 at 3 p.m., hosting No. 7 University of Tampa at John Kurtz Field.
