INDIANAPOLIS - The No. 17 Georgia College & State University baseball squad (37-17) and head coach Tom Carty have been chosen for one of three at-large slots to the NCAA Division II Baseball Southeast Regional, the NCAA announced today (May 10).
The Southeast Regional will be held in Aiken, S.C. and hosted by top-seed USC Aiken. Another Peach Belt Conference (PBC) school, conference tournament champions Francis Marion University, landed the No. 2 seed. The Bobcats took No. 3.
South Atlantic Conference (SAC) Tournament champion Catawba College picked up the No. 4 seed, with SAC regular-season winner Tusculum College earning the No. 5 slot. Rounding out the six is Conference Carolinas Tournament winner Belmont Abbey College.
The Bobcats will probably face the 35-16 Catawba College Indians in the first round of the Southeast Regional, to be held from May 14-18.
The 2009 selection marks the eighth trip for Georgia College to the NCAA Tournament, and the third in the last four seasons. The Bobcats have taken the region title once, advancing to NCAA World Series Runner-Up status in 1995.
