Burkard Named GCSU Athlete of the Week

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore righty Alex Burkard (Alpharetta, Ga.) of the No. 17 Georgia College & State University baseball team (37-16) was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for his performance during the week ending May 3. This is the first such honor for Burkard and the fifth for the Bobcat baseball team this season.

Burkard dealt masterfully in his start against Columbus State University Wednesday, picking up his first collegiate win. The towering lefty went 5 1/3 innings, fanning five and allowing just one run on three hits and a walk.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, May 9 at 12:30 p.m. when they open up the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Tournament in Aiken, S.C. against UNC Pembroke.
