MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Junior outfielder Derek Johns (Waynesville, Ga.) of the No. 14 Georgia College & State University baseball team (31-13, 15-9 PBC) was named GCSU Athlete of the Week for the week ending April 19. This is the second such honor for Johns and the third for the Bobcat baseball team this season.
Johns went 8-for-17 (.371) over the four-game week for the Bobcats, driving in five and scoring seven times. He opened up with a 3-for-5 effort against the University of West Georgia, scoring three times and driving in a pair. In the series-opening doubleheader at UNC Pembroke, he had a 2-for-4 with a run, and in the nightcap, a 2-for-5 with two RBI and a run, knocking a double. Sunday's game brought the only one-hit contest of the week for Johns, but it was a solo home run.
The Bobcats are back in action today, April 22 at 3 p.m. traveling to Benedict College.
