Bobcat Baseball in the Polls

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Fresh off a 3-1 week, the Georgia College & State University baseball team (29-11, 14-7 PBC) maintained a strong presence in three national polls and came out on top of the first NCAA Southeast Region list.

The Bobcats hold the lead spot in the first NCAA region poll, the rankings used to determine the selections to the NCAA Tournament each season. Georgia College owns a 23-10 region rank, followed by fellow Peach Belt Conference (PBC) school USC Aiken. Tusculum College, the leader in the South Atlantic Conference (SAC) is third, with Catawba College in fourth. Belmont Abbey College, the Conference Carolinas (CC) leader stands fifth, PBC school Francis Marion University sixth and defending National Champions Mount Olive College standing seventh. CC squad Erskine College is eighth.

There are six available spots for the NCAA Regional, with three going to the conference tournament winners, and three left over as at-large selections.

For a third straight week, the Bobcats earned the No. 8 ranking in the nation, according to Collegiate Baseball Magazine. Peach Belt Conference (PBC) rival USC Aiken impressed the voters, jumping ten spots to No. 14. In all, three PBC teams are in the top-30 this week, as Francis Marion entered the poll at No. 28.

GCSU held steady in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Top-25. For a second consecutive week, the Bobcats occupy the No. 10 spot. Also representing the PBC in this poll is USC Aiken which sits at No. 21.

The Bobcats continue to rise in the PING! Baseball Top-30 Rankings. This week, GCSU climbs one spot to No. 18. Georgia College remains the lone PBC school in this list.

Georgia College is back in action Saturday, April 18 at 1 p.m. heading to UNC Pembroke for a doubleheader.
