MARTINEZ, Ga. - Junior righty Dylan Lightell (Rosamond, Calif.) of the No. 6 Georgia College & State University baseball team was named the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Pitcher of the Week, the conference office announced today (March 17). This is the first honor for both Lightell and the Bobcats (17-6, 7-2 PBC) this season.
Lightell pitched nine complete innings over two appearances, giving up three hits and no earned runs. He began his week with three innings of two-hit relief in a win over No. 27 Pfeiffer University, then pitched six innings of one-hit ball as GCSU swept No. 7 North Georgia. In that game, Lightell allowed one unearned run and the one hit while striking out nine. He held opponents to a .103 batting average on the week.
The junior starter is the first PBC Pitcher of the Week for the Bobcats since Michael Newman was named to the honor April 28, 2008. All-time, Georgia College pitchers have now brought home 24 total PBC Pitcher of the Week trophies since 1993.
The Bobcats put their six-game win streak on the line tomorrow, March 18 at 2 p.m. when they travel to the University of West Georgia.
