#18 Baseball’s Johns Cleans up PBC and GCSU Weekly Honors

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. - Senior outfielder Derek Johns (Waynesville, Ga.) of the No. 18 Georgia College & State University baseball team (9-4, 3-0 PBC) earned both the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) and GCSU Players of the Week for the week ending Feb. 22. This is the first such honor in both categories for Johns and the Bobcat baseball team this season.

Johns hit .550 in five games last week with five runs scored and six RBI. The senior had multi-hit games in four of the five, including all three conference games against Armstrong Atlantic State University. Against AASU, Johns hit .538 with three runs scored and two RBIs, going 2-for-5 in the opener with a double, 2-for-5 in the second and 3-for-4 in the third. He began the week with a 3-for-4 outing against Columbia Union with two doubles and four RBIs. He also stole three bases in the last game against AASU as the Bobcats swept.

Johns becomes the first PBC Player of the Week for Bobcat baseball since Pete Paris (Scranton, Pa.) April 30, 2007.

The Bobcats return to action today, Feb. 25 at 4:30 p.m. for a single game at Valdosta State University.
