Georgia College Baseball Receiving Votes in National Poll

SAVANNAH, Ga. - The Georgia College & State University baseball team is receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball Division II Preseason National Rankings, released Jan. 11.

The Bobcats are coming off a 33-24 season in 2008, and return nine position starters and 2/3 of their starting rotation. Georgia College was picked fourth in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) poll but four conference squads ranked above GCSU in the National Top-40.

Columbus State University leads the way at No. 5, with USC Aiken at No. 10, and No. 17 North Georgia and No. 33 Francis Marion University rounding out the quartet.

Georgia College earned 16 votes, tied for seventh among the teams not appearing on the poll. The Bobcats also have No. 2 University of Tampa, No. 21 Valdosta State University and No. 36 Erskine College on the 2009 slate.

The Bobcats start the season Thursday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m., hosting No. 36 Erskine at John Kurtz Field.
