MARTINEZ, Ga. - The Peach Belt Conference (PBC) released its Preseason All-PBC Baseball Team Jan. 22, with two Bobcats earning slots on the squad.

Junior Chandler Snell (Loganville, Ga.) was named the team's top shortstop, while sophomore Richard Pirkle (Norcross, Ga.) was listed at designated hitter.

Snell paced the team with a .348 batting average, driving in 29 and scoring 37 times. He earned a pair of PBC defensive rankings, fourth in assists and 10th in turning double plays from shortstop. A starter since coming to GCSU as a freshman, Snell stole 15 bases in 17 attempts and was ranked eighth in the Peach Belt in sacrifice bunts.

Pirkle was the team's lone All-PBC team representative in 2008, becoming the first Bobcat designated hitter to earn all-conference honors since 2002. As a freshman, he hit .338 with a team-best eight home runs and 35 RBI. The sophomore scored 35 runs and had a .581 slugging percentage thanks to his 20 extra-base hits. Pirkle upped his numbers against conference opponents, hitting .361 in league games.

Now in the second year of Preseason All-PBC baseball honorees, the program is administered and voted on by the league's sports information directors. Only Francis Marion, North Georgia and GCSU placed more than one player on the squad this season. Over the two seasons, the Bobcats now have four honorees.

The Bobcats open their season hosting No. 36 Erskine College Thursday, Feb. 5 at 2 p.m.
