Both GCSU Cross Country Squads Remain Regionally Ranked
NEW ORLEANS - The United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association of America (USTFCCCA) recently released its week 2 Southeast Region rankings, with the Georgia College & State University teams both taking seventh.
The Georgia College women recently took runner-up honors at the Ricardo Romo UTSA Six Flags Fiesta Texas Classic hosted by the University of Texas-San Antonio, with the men's squad grabbing third place.
Senior Heather Raines (Lawrenceville, Ga.) was named the most recent Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Runner of the Week, the first such honor for the women's team in school history. Classmate Josh Hollar (Canton, Ga.) has led the men's team in both of their two races this season.
On the women's side, Queens (N.C.) University takes the top slot, with the Bobcats ranking third amongst PBC schools. Defending PBC Champion Columbus State University is third, while Augusta State University is fourth. The Bobcats slid one spot to No. 7.
Queens had the sweep, taking the men's top slot as well, with GCSU third in the PBC teams here as well. Columbus State is No. 2, with Clayton State University in the third slot. The GCSU men's squad stayed put at No. 7 for the third-straight poll.
Both squads are back in action Saturday, Sept. 26 at the Mercer RunFit Sports Invitational in Macon, Ga.
