Cross Country Prepares for PBC Championship

MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Both the Georgia College men’s and women’s cross country teams will travel to Americus, Ga. Saturday, Oct. 26 to compete in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) Championships on the campus of Georgia Southwestern State University.

The men’s team will be led by sophomores Trevor Turner (Snellville, Ga.) and James Ryden (Atlanta). Both Turner and Ryden have won individual titles this season with Turner’s coming at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational and Ryden at the Pop Crowell Invitational.

The men as a team took home first place honors in three of their five events this season, adding a second and fourth place finish. The Bobcat men took sixth place out of ten in the event last year.

Pacing the championships for the women will be classmates Lena White (Smyrna, Ga.) and Rachel Pasko (Jefferson, Ga.). White finished in second place overall three times this year, with her best time coming at the Captain Chris Invitational, a personal record. Pasko claimed four top-10 finishes this year in five races. She also set a personal record at the Captain Chris Invitational.

In five races this season, the women’s team won one title, and placed second three times. Their lone win came at the Bridgestone-Pacer Invitational. Last year at the PBC Championships, the Bobcat women finished in fifth out of 12 teams.

The Bobcat men’s best finish in school history came in 2006, earning runner-up status. The Bobcat women’s best effort was also a runner-up finish in 2009.

The women will begin the race at 9 a.m. with then men following shortly at 9:45 a.m. For the first time in event history, the PBC office will feature a “Finish-Line Cam” available at http://www.ustream.tv/peachbeltconference .
