NEW ORLEANS – The second week of cross country regional rankings from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) were released on Tuesday and both men’s and women’s Georgia College cross country teams maintained their ranks.
The women’s team held the No. 7 spot on the rankings despite a week without an event. In addition to the Bobcats, the No. 1-6 ranked schools also held their positions in the Southeast Region, including four Peach Belt Conference (PBC) teams. PBC opponent the University of Montevallo, who will be hosting the conference championship Oct. 20, moved up to No. 8 on the list. Augusta State University, who had been occupying No. 8 in the first rankings of the season, dropped off the top 10 after being No. 6 on the preseason rankings.
The Georgia College men’s team kept their No. 10 rankings despite also not running in an event during the past week. All 10 teams from the first week rankings kept a spot in the second week of rankings, with five PBC schools being represented. The only change in the rankings was Augusta State holding the No. 3 place on the top 10; previously ranked No. 5 Augusta State leap-frogged Columbus State University and Mars Hill University who now hold the No. 4 and No. 5 spots, respectively.
Men’s and women’s cross country will be back in action Saturday, Sept. 29 as they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. to compete in the Roy Griak Invitational hosted by the University of Minnesota.
