MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – Georgia College’s Student Athlete Advisory Committee gives voice to all student-athletes at GC through the influences of the 18 coach-nominated student-athletes.
SAAC allows student-athletes to vote and express their opinions and concerns about NCAA legislation, rules, regulations and policies that affect all student-athletes' lives, enabeling information to be relayed between all conference campuses.
Allowing the students to vote on the NCAA legislation “gives
them a voice, their input actually makes a difference,” said
Student-Athlete Advisory Committee advisor Ginger Chaffinch.
At the beginning of the school year, each coach nominates two
members to represent each sport as part of the committee. Ideas,
likes and concerns are bounced around at the monthly meetings run
by the nominated President and Vice President. Caitlin Duvall
(softball) was nominated as 2011-2012 President with Wictor
Anderson (tennis) and Kali Carswell (softball) as Co-Vice
Presidents.
The concerns and legislation edits are sent to the college
president who will then meet with their respect SAAC advisor to
discuss changes that the student-athletes propose. Each NCAA
Division II level college president gets to vote based on the
feedback and reports from their respected school at convention.
The overall mission is to raise money for the Make-A-Wish
Foundation, the NCAA Division II’s philanthropy. In the
previous years the money has been raised with the help of other
on-campus organizations and people through small fundraisers at
ballgames, 3k races and various events.
This year, $1,000 of the total proceeds made at the 11th Annual Milledgeville Open and Kids Tennis Festival hosted by GC Athletics will be donated towards the cause.
