MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College & State University tennis program and head coach Steve Barsby released its 2010 fall schedule Wednesday. The Bobcat men’s and women’s netters have two tournaments apiece in the abbreviated season.
The fall semester starts with the Windstream Georgia College Men’s Fall Championships at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility Sept. 17-19. This season marks the 10th annual version of this tournament, bringing some of the top men’s tennis action in the southeast to Milledgeville. Leo Bernardes (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and Bobby Angelucci (Acworth, Ga.) each won individual titles and teamed for a doubles victory in 2009.
Next, both the men’s and women’s players are in action at the annual ITA Southeast Regionals Sept. 24-27 in Sumter, S.C. The Bobcat men are just two years removed from a regional title in men’s doubles.
The fall season wraps up with the 18th Annual Windstream Georgia College Women’s Fall Championships Oct. 1-3. Kayla Barksdale (Martinez, Ga.) and Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) teamed up for a doubles championship, adding individual titles as well a year ago.
The Bobcat men went 16-7 in 2010, finishing third in the Peach Belt Conference (PBC) at 6-3. They advanced to the finals of the NCAA Southeast Region-2, making the NCAA Tournament for the 11th time in program history. The women finished the season 12-12 with a 6-6 PBC record, good for seventh in one of the toughest conferences around. The Bobcat women advanced to the NCAA Regional-2 Semifinal match, making their 16th-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.
