INDIANAPOLIS – The Georgia College men’s and women’s tennis teams, led by head coach Steve Barsby, each battled through one of the toughest schedules in Division II tennis, and were rewarded Tuesday night with at-large selections to the NCAA Regional Tournament.

The Georgia College women earned the No. 4 seed, thanks to their 16-8 overall record. The women’s squad will travel to Savannah, Ga. the site of Southeast Region #1 host Armstrong Atlantic. GC will take on a familiar foe in No. 5 Flagler College (11-6) Monday, May 2 at 2 p.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of the No. 1-seed Pirates and No. 8-seed Erskine College Tuesday for a trip to the NCAA Finals.

The GC women faced Peach Belt Conference (PBC) foe Flagler for the final game of the regular season this year, pulling out a hard-fought 5-4 win April 11. A 6-1, 6-0 domination by Michelle Lingner (Dunwoody, Ga.) at sixth singles clinched the victory at the Centennial Center Tennis Facility.

The Bobcat men were named the No. 7 seed, compiling a 14-8 overall record. The men’s squad will travel to Columbus, Ga. and face Southeast Region #2 host Columbus State University. GC will take on another conference foe in No. 2-seed CSU (15-4) Sunday, May 1 at 1 p.m. The winner of that match will face the winner of No. 3-seed Lander University and No. 6-seed Francis Marion University Monday for a trip to the NCAA Finals.

The Bobcats struggled against the Cougars April 3, a 9-0 loss. The score was deceptive however, as the GC men dropped a pair of 9-8 scores in doubles, and also took a pair of three-set losses in singles action.
