MILLEDGEVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia College Department of Athletics honored its student-athletes at its Annual Athletics Banquet Wednesday night in the Magnolia Ballroom.
Joe Young (Cochran, Ga.) a member of the golf team, received the Senior Male Athlete of the Year award. Young, a two-time All-American and three-time All-Southeast Region and All-Peach Belt Conference selection, owns a 71.7 stroke average this season. The senior has a tournament title among his four top-five finishes this season. Young is a general business major.
Mary Rob Plunkett (Augusta, Ga.) of the soccer team was named Senior Female Athlete of the Year. The first All-American in GC soccer history, Plunkett is a two-time All-PBC honoree, and has reached the PBC All-Academic Team three times. Young cleaned up on the evening, winning the Dr. Michael Peeler Award for top golfer on and off the course, as well as the Comeback Player of the Year Award from the Athletic Training Department for overcoming early season injuries that kept him out of two events.

The John Kurtz Award will be announced at the baseball game Friday, April 29 at 7 p.m. against Armstrong Atlantic, as the team was in action tonight and was unable to attend the banquet.
